Swinging into regionals

This coming week, the golf team is taking on regionals. Last week they placed second in the Kanawha County Golf Tournament. After losing three strong players from their team last year, the team managed to continue working hard and finished strong. We began by asking Coach Charlie Jordan about what he likes most about the team this year. Coach Jordan loves the team camaraderie. He says the team hangs out a lot on and off the green therefore helping their overall performance. Coach Jordan says our region is tough and will be a challenge but he still feels confident that his players have a great chance to compete for the state championship. He is very proud of his team, specifically mentioning how Michael Strickland and Conner Mayhorn are leaders on and off the field, Will Gruse being their lead scorer this season, as well as Ben Carew’s exceptional performances this season. He also gave a special shout out to his two freshmen Abbie Nester and Noah Budwany. We got the opportunity to pull aside a few players and hear some of their opinions. Will Gruse says he is feeling confident after placing second in the Kanawha County Tournament. Gruse believes he is able to handle the pressure better than he did last year and is feeling good about the rest of the season. Michael Strickland says he is feeling solid about his performances and has had a lot of help from his teammates encouraging him this season. Since this is Michael's last season, he is trying to take it all in and enjoy every moment he has left. Let's give the golf team some Irish luck as they are off to regionals!
